Joszef Atilla Settlement Revitalization

Open Competition, 4th prize, 2017

Ort: Budapest, Hungary

Team: Gaul Cicelle, Nusszer Diána, Varga András, Molnár Bianka

Auftraggeber: City of Budapest & Municipality of Joszef Atilla

The Joszef Atilla Settlement is located close to the southern rustbelt of Budapest and was build in 3 chapters from 1968-1988. Over 6000 people live here, mostly as owners of their apartments. While the settlement is in a classical way representing the urban ideals of the 70ies, nowadays it lacks of its green and free space infrastructure as well as in it's usabilities. The demanded task was to redefine the open spaces and housing blocks in order to revitalize the settlement. A triggering approach was to reorder the streetscapes and the open spaces by activating their citizens within an community based concept of a mixed use open space. The additional housing units will compensate the costs of the conceptual approach of urban gardening and connected ressource cycles and refiguration of the (semi)public spaces.
